The Beatles is a British rock band founded in 1960 in Liverpool. It’s considered to be the most famous band ever and one of the most commercially successful projects in the history of popular music. The Beatles managed to sell more than one billion copies of their records demonstrating an incredible achievement in a global music industry.

Originally, the band consisted of John Lennon (vocals, rhythm guitar), Paul McCartney (vocals, rhythm guitar), George Harrison (vocals, solo guitar), Stuart Sutcliffe (bass) and Pete Best (drums). Sutcliffe left the band in1961 and Paul McCartney replaced him. A year after Ringo Starr replaced Best and it was exactly this composition that reached the peak of popularity in the following years.

The band was purely amateur since none of the participants had any music education. Moreover, none of them played any instrument professionally. John Lennon used to sing in a church choir and later learned a few tunes on a harmonica and a guitar. These skills appeared to be enough for him to become a band leader. McCartney was invited by Lennon’s friend and quickly joined the group. The guys started writing their own songs, which wasn’t typical for that time since performers usually took advantage of music composed upon request.

The Beatles’ most famous official albums are 1968 The Beatles, 1969 Yellow Submarine, 1969 Abbey Road and 1970 Let It Be. The band also received a lot of prestigious awards, including seven Grammy Awards, the 1971 Academy Award for the Best Original Song Score and fifteen Ivor Novello Awards. The Beatles were also introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Apart from this they are owners of numerous platinum and gold albums. Finally in 2014 the band won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Generally, The Beatles made an enormous impact on the development of pop and rock music. Despite the band no longer exists its former participants are still renowned by millions of fans worldwide and their greatest hits remain extremely popular.
